This multi day hike can be arranged as a guided tour or a self-guided tour.
Guided: One of the Adventureshop Guides will lead you on the hikes each day and provide information about the area, fauna and flora and arrange wine tastings as needed. Accommodation and luggage transfers are included in the rate.
Self-Guided: Adventureshop will provide the client with a GPS track for each walk per day. Adventureshop can make arrangements for tastings as required. Accommodation and Luggage transfers are included in the rate.
Day 1: Stellenbosch town via Coetzenburg to Mont Marie – 12km (319m elevation) one way or 19 km return.)
Arrive in Stellenbosch at 8:00 to drop off luggage at the Adventureshop office (Ou Landbousaal, 1 Noordwal-Wes Rd) and attend the tour briefing.
The Multi day hike starts at the Adventureshop office and follows the Stellenbosch Trail Fund (STF) trails through Stellenbosch Mountain to Eden and Mont Marie wine estate.
You will pass through the Stellenbosch University Test Farm before ascending the slopes of Stellenbosch Mountain with beautiful views towards Table Mountain and the False Bay.
Pass the famous G-Spot Mountain bike trails and descend through the Pine forests of Eden before reaching the first farm on your route, Mont-Marie (Wine tasting and Restaurant available).
From Mont Marie, Dornier (Tasting and Restaurant), Waterford (tastings and platters) and Kleinood (Tastings) are a short walk further.
Tastings can be arranged by Adventureshop (tastings fees and Lunch on own account). Those who have the energy can hike back to Stellenbosch via another but similar route or we can arrange a Adventureshop pick up to bring you back to your accommodation in Stellenbosch after a lazy Wine farm lunch.
Accommodation in a centrally located 4 star Guest house. Dinner can be arranged at one of the many award winning restaurants in Stellenbosch within walking distance from your Guesthouse.
Day 2: Stellenbosch Town to Banhoek Valley – 16 km with 350m elevation
We transport your luggage on the Multi day hiking tour. So please leave your luggage at hotel reception as we will collect and transfer the luggage to your accommodation establishment for tonight. Guided tour guests will meet their guide at reception.
Today the route meanders through beautiful Stellenbosch town and Stellenbosch Univeristy with its vibrant “Rooiplein”. The next 2 km are along the tar road into Idas valley before the route starts climbing through the Idas Valley Nature area. (One of our local Idas valley community trails helpers will walk with you through this section)
Beautiful views over the Idas valley dam and the Stellenbosch valley await before we reach the summit of Helshoogte pass at Delaire Graff (Wine tasting and Restaurant). Enjoy breathtaking views over the Banhoek valley from Delaire Graff, and make sure to visit beautiful Tokara (wine tasting and restaurant and Tokara Deli), and Thelema (wine tasting). After lunch and wine tastings it is a short downhill walk into the Banhoek valley to your accommodation in the winelands. Your luggage will be at your accommodation.
Spend the afternoon relaxing in the winelands. Dinner can be arranged at one of the nearby Wine estates.
Day 3: Banhoek Valley Meander to Boschendal – 19 km with 415m elevation
Please leave your luggage at hotel reception as we will collect and transfer the luggage when we collect you at the end point of the route. Guided tour guests will meet their guide at reception.
Hike from your guesthouse doorstep through the magnificent Banhoek valley with optional visits to Oldenburg wines and Rainbows End wines. Climb the slopes of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains in the Banhoek Conservancy where Eland, Gemsbok and much more roam free. Hike the spectacular sky traverse route to Boschendal farm where you can have a well deserved lunch and wine tasting before we collect you and transfer you back to Stellenbosch in the afternoon.
